Michiel Sindorff also called Michael, Cornelis Michiel Sindorff, Cornelis Michiel Sindorff, Lindorff, Lindorfs, born duchy Limburg, Venlo, March 3, 1802, now the Netherlands (Europe), deceased Prussia, Tudderen 26-03-1850 Venlo district, being the fourth child of his father Cornelis SINDORFF (1774-1852) and his mother Anna(e) Catharina(e) KUIJPERS (CUIJPERS). Siblings were his older sister Anna Gertrudis Sindorff (1796-1878) and older brothers Joannes Wilhelmus Sindorff, also as Peter Wilhelmus or Pierre Guillaum Sindorff (1798-1798), Petrus Sindorff, also known as Peter (1799-1868), and his younger sisters Elisabeth Catharina Gertrudis Sindorff, also known as Catharina Gertrudis (180501868) and Maria Catharina Sindorff (1807-1885) and younger brother Willem Antoon Hubert Sindorff (.1811-1889).

The family lived during the time of many political changes. Michiel's father, Cornelius Sindorff, from (Mühl)Bracht (Mulbracht/Brüggen) in Prussia, now Germany (Europe) had since 1796 his own bakery in Lomstraat close to the Geldensche Poort, Venlo, and worked as baker for the Kesselse community in the Land van Kessel, within the Holy Empire, under emperor Napoleon, Pruisen, before his brother was appointed as the first King of the Netherlands/Holland: Koning Louis of Lodewijk van Holland, and changed into the Netherlands or Holland since 1815 with a province, in stead of Duchy, called Limburg,

Michiel was a processor, either in textile or in construction, a craftsman. To date is is unknown why his entire family deceased at very young age. It must have terrible for the family. Since Michiel left an inheritance at his death hunger is probably not a cause. Could it have been contaminated water, adultery or poison? His grandfather Michael Syndorff, registered in Dormagen and in Bracht, seemed to have had two marriages and at least 15 children with two different wife's as it appears. If this is the same man of course.

At the age of 24, Michiel married Venlo, May 22, 1826 with Elisabeth Josephina von Cöll(e)n, Coellen, born December 25, 1800, deceased Venlo July 12, 1834, shortly after giving birth to Adeleidis Catharina Sindorff, deceased 10 June 1834, daughter of Godfried von Cöll(e)n , merchant, and Adeleide Krauthausen.

From this marriage:

  1. Adeleidis Catharina Sindorff daughter of Anna Gertrudis von Cöllen (1827-1834)

  2. Gertrudis Josephina Sindorff daughter of Elisabeth von Cöllen (1828-1828).

  3. Jozef Godfried Sindorff son of Elisabeth von Cöllen (1829-1830).

  4. Catharina Helena Sindorff daughter of Elisabeth von Cöllen (1830-1833)

  5. Joseph Antoon Sindorff, also Jozef Antoon, son of Elisabeth von Cöllen (1833-1834)

  6. Johan Joseph Antoon Hubert Sindorff son of Elisabeth von Cöllen (1834-1834).

Michiel must have known to be sick or at risk; he left a will behind for his family. Clearly a family tragedy loosing all the children at very young age. Michiel or Michael Sindorff, left his family a legacy upon his decease and leaves behind ƒ 800,- in total of which to father 1/4: ƒ 200,- and to brothers & sisters with husbands 3/4: ƒ 600,- .

  • ƒ was a Hollandse or Dutch FLorijn (HFL or DFL) and ƒ 1,- equal to Euro 0,45378. Thus, about Euro 363,-. On wiki

    • In the past, the value of the guilder has been expressed in gold and/or silver in the currency. From 1816 to 1847, the Netherlands had the double standard (gold and silver). During this period, the value was internationally related to the silver content of the guilder. Between 1850 and 1873-1875 (transitional period) the silver standard was used; After this, under the influence of the countries around us, they switched to the gold standard until 1936.

1839: 1 guilder = 10 grams of silver, grade 945/1000 (9.45 grams of fine silver);

1850: 800 guilders - 8000 grams of silver grade 945/1000 (9.45 gr of fine silver);

Probably around Euro 5.900,- in todays currency (2024).

It was read that for ƒ 1000,- a totally empty house could be bought during that time, and wages were ƒ 1,- per day.
