Sindorf(f) and Zündorf (2022) Keulen or Cologne, Germany

Citizen book on Zündorf around 1700-1800 published by Karl H. Boley

This living document is written to inspire, research and discover the family history of SINDORFF and others related, making geography, history and some customs much more fun to appreciate. In Europe between 1000 and 1500 AD cities and states were founded, which had already been done by Sumerian city-states from -3500 BC in Mesopotamia, now called Iraq and who knows it all started in Isin.
Around 1381 Sindorff & Syndorff, a family village described in a publication in an European country, now called Slovenia, region Soutch East, Dolenjska, previously Duchy Unter Krain, Austria is the earliest known publication in Europe on the family name, but unlikely to be entirely true.
The family and its name originally also thereafter arrived from Sindorff, a city district or quarter near and part of the city of Cologne (in Dutch called Keulen) that is located in Europe, in a country now called Germany, in 1815 called Prussia, published in 1428, (1481-1556), (1626), (1769-1802), (1827) until at least 1892. The family toponymously derived their surname from it, or the other way around, but you may also explore the etymology This district or town in Germany near Cologne is now called Zündorf and you may discover why.
The Czech Republic, an other country in Europe holds a Czech document, about donation of an intermediate forest, places "Zudendorf" and Stázava in 1280. Zudendorff was afterwards called Zundorff, who they were you will read from the start of the family tree.
'Ober-, in the German language means 'above', and Onder, in the German language means 'or'-yet in the Dutch language it means Nieder-, Zündorf, were first two medieval cities located on the river Rhine and were already mentioned in 1009 and 1156 AD. 'While Ober Zündorf was occupied with agriculture, in Zündorf a certain importance was attached to shipping. In any case, since the end of the medieval period, covering 1270-1500 AD, there is a ferry that the coachmans and passenger carriages from Cologne are using crossing the Rhine between Weiss and Zündorf' (Karl H. Boley) and is still there today called Ferry Zündorf-Weiß "Krokolino". The ferry service is therefore at least 750 years old.
In 1609 both 'Ober- and Onder (Nieder) Zündorf are mentioned as 'Ober- en Onder Sindorff' on a land map published by Abraham Hogenberg.
Since 1300, the place Sindorf had already been located within the duchies of Jülich and Berg and the archbishopric of Cologne in Germany, previously known as Prussia, the region is on a map from 1560. The place Sindorf is described in the family history of Merode. In the 'Dutch Lion', also known as the blue nobility book, the place Sindorf is mentioned around 1550. Today there is still a district called Sindorf and Sindorf station, belonging to district Kerpen, close to Cologne in 1378 another place Sindorf was also located near Hemmerbach on the other side close to Cologne.
The identical town on various landmaps showing Sindorff in 1609 and 1622, Zundorf in 1645, a place with knight history, Sindorf in 1662 and Zindorf in1696, Justice of Syndorff, among others, in 1650, Pastorate Sindorff around 1600-1700, confirmation of the place of Syndorff in 1701-1800, deeds from 1727and 1807 suggests that ancient relationships exist.
Between these periods various branches of the family named Sindorff moved to various cities and countries. The family Sindorff spread over various cities such as Achen, Bracht, Dormagen, Geilenkirchen, Gymnich, Kisselbach, Köln, Norf, Perscheid, Possenheim, Rommerskirchen, Schönberg, Wittenburg in Germany (Prussia) and to many other countries, such as the Netherlands, to cities like Venlo, Tilburg, Haarlem, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and countries like Denmark, Belgium, UK, Israël, Turkey, USA, Brasil, Australia and Tasmania and maybe to Africa, Russia.
The reconstruction of all the families branches are too comprehensive at this stage and welcome anyone to continue to reconstruct, which shall take many more years to accomplish, being sure of the experience of a family relation in more depth. One thing we all have in common; Sindorff as family name or Beyond, related to.
The second author, is a member of the family branch Sindorff that lived in the province of Limburg, municipality of Venlo, the Netherlands, coming from (Mühl)Bracht/Brüggen around 1800, state North Rhine - Westphalen, Germany or Prussia at that time moved from Rotterdam to Amsterdam and Wormer and another branch of Sindorff moved further to the municipality of Tilburg, in the Netherlands, at the end of 1933 being first author online, at genwiki.nl, of the Tilburg branch. Proudly to be part of Limburg, the site has restrictions on living members and format. The family name was still common in Limburg from 1947 to 1969 and ceased in 2008, since then there has been evidence of genetic similarity with populations from or around the Czech Republic.
The majority of the similar-named family Zindorp, Zin(n)dorf(f), Zündorf(f), Sindorp, Sindorf(f) from mainly the province of North Holland, in the Netherlands, possibly related, coming from Hannover in Germany around 1750 is genealogically researched by, among others, Marja Hooreman©, see also Sindorf genealogy and are listed at USA list, among others, War Graves Foundation 1940-1945 and the War Graves Volksbund.
A family coat of arm is always for one family. A coat of arm is hereditary and represents a family, not a person, only at the beginning around 1200 AD, after which the son carried the same coat of arm or close to the original. The family coat of arm and the name of a dynasty were subsequently derived from the places of residence (Hohen)Staufen, Black Forest region, Germany, among other places and elements such as two crowns and the arrows, which is a symbol of combativeness, speed and agility and published further in an Austrian Codex or book around 1560 using variations in spelling of the name. A German ß (called a ringel "s" is equal to double "s", in German called "Eszett" or "scharfes s" (sharp s). In the old days it was common to use "ss" or "sz"), implies Ihres Szindorff, or "Yours Szindorff' often used by nobility or government to indicate to serve a higher purpose. The "/a" means most likely "adel", in the Dutch language or Adel, in the German language, which translates into nobility. Heraldry explains more about the coat of arm often kept close to start of history or later family developments. Discover more. This family coat of arm around 1560 may be the first family coat of arm as first knights and their sons, were using a coat of arm at the time of the crusades in the early middle ages, 500-1000 AD, the first found around 1200 AD.
Given the situation that development of name giving started from one first name, with at most a number, being first, second, etc. it is conceivable that a family name developed with various spelling and may also explain the "z" in sszindorff or Zudendorf. What do you believe? Therefore on this page of the site is worked towards the start of the name spelt as Sindorff. Multiple spelling variants were assigned within one household to distinguish as new branch. When that happens multiple times it may be promiscuous. Probably therefore, spelling of a family name became mandatory around 1800 in the Netherlands and Belgium due to the law by emperor Napoleon.

Prehistory; -100,000/-3000 - Time of Farmers and Hunters
Antiquity ; -3000/500 - Time of Greeks and Romans; the East and West Roman Empires, Great Migrations
The Romans conquered the south of the Netherlands in 57 BC and in 50 AD and made the Rhine River a border between their empire and the north of the Netherlands. The northern part was then administered by the powerful Frisians. The Romans had 3 major cities in the Netherlands: Noviomagus (Nijmegen), Mosae Trajectum (Maastricht) and Forum Hadriaum (Voorburg, near The Hague). At the end of the 4th century the Romans left the Netherlands, after which the Frisians, the Franks and the Saxons took over the Netherlands. In the 8th century, the Netherlands belonged solely to the Franks, although the Frisians also lived there.
According to tradition, the Apostle Andrew first preached Christianity in Asia Minor which lead to the foundation of the Byzantine archdiocese and (ecumenical) patriarchy in Constantinople, capital of the Byzantine empire, now called Istanbul in Turkey and the separation of the Roman Empire in West and East around 300 AD. The church of Constantinople became 'the new Rome'.

I. Gerard von Zudendorf is a witness in 1222 in a certificate from Cologne, among the Bergen nobility.
I. Henry (VII) (1211-1242) is a matter of the Holy Roman Empire, not to be confused with Henry VII of Luxembourg (1275-1313), King of Sicily (1212/1217-1235) and Duke of Swabia (1216- 1235) as Henry II. Henry (VII) was crowned "Rex Romanorum" or Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire at Aachen in the presence of Floris IV, on 8 May 1222, for which the spiritual princes granted 'Confoederatio cum principibus ecclesiasticis' 1222-1235; chosen.
-
Henry was the only child from the 1st marriage between his parents Frederick II (1194-1250) and Constance of Aragón (1179-1222), daughter of King Alfonso II of Aragón (part of now Spain).
-
From Henry's father's 2nd marriage, with Queen -Isabella II-, Yolande of Jerusalem (1212–1228), daughter of King John of Jerusalem of Brienne (France) half brother and - sister Margaretha (1226–1227) and Conrad IV ( 1228-1254) were born, upon his death Roman king, king of Jerusalem and Sicily, who married Elisabeth of Bavaria (1227-1273) their son, Conradin or Koenraad the Younger (1252-1268), beheaded on behalf of Charles I in Naples. His father's relationship with Bianca Lancia (ca 1210–ca 1250) produced half-sisters Anna Constance (1230-1307), Violante (1233-1266) and half- brother Manfred (1232-1266), whose 3 young sons were tortured to death on behalf of Charles I in Castel del Monte, regent of Sicily.
-
From his father's 3rd marriage, July 15, 1235 in Worms with Isabella of England (1214-1241), daughter of King John of England, half-brothers Jordanus (°-1236), Hendrik (1238-1254) and half-sisters Agnes (°- 1237) and Margaret (1241–1270) were born. For other half-brothers and sisters, reference is made to Frederick II (1194-1250), Emperor and Stupor Mundi, Advocatus Sancti, protector of the Holy Sepulchre grandchild of Frederick Barbossa (1152-1190), who was first to use Sacrum Imperium (Romanorum).
N.B. The seal, as a coin, of Henry VII (Henry II of Swabia), from 1216, shows him as a mounted knight, dynamic, with shield and a banner or flag of, with what appears to be the county of Württemberg, with three leopards (three lions as supporters/guardians) on the coat of arm of Hohenstaufen (as, for example, later on with his half-sister Margaret); the three lions would later become known as the Swabian coat of arm. The horse is in a braking gallop, jumps or rears unexpectedly, depending on how the coin spins. The earliest seal of Hohenstaufen was a single lion, briefly two lions, and after 1196 three lions or leopards. The tincture 'or' and 'sable', gold/yellow and black, was recorded in 1220. His coat of arm as Holy Roman Emperor is a less known coat of arm; shared main division, half sinopia (first red, later green; symbolic for paradise in the Islamic world, half or, double headed eagle sable).
Henrich von Zudendorph is a witness in a certificate of Emperor Otto, Cologne and in 1221 in a certificate Bishop Engelbert of Cologne in 1219. Heinrich von Zudendorf, citizen of Cologne, informs the king of England, Henry III (1207-1272), son of king John Lackland, that the Archbishop of Cologne, Engelbert and guardian of Henry VII, who had undoubtedly brought the king's cause to a successful conclusion, had been murdered by one of his nearest relatives. Serenitati vestre - exhibere curetis. Shirley Letters of Henry III 1,274 according to source 1225. Engelbert planned a marriage to Isabella of England, one of King John's daughters; but was not consummated after Engelbert's death in 1225. His father married for the third time, now to Isabella of England. Hendrik was still a minor, fourteen years old, Margaretha was seven years older, twenty-one. Henry married Nürnberg November 29, 1225, by order of his father, with Margaret of Babenberg (1206-1266), daughter of Duke Leopold VI of Austria.

Of this coat of arm in combination with the shield of Henrich "van Zudendorp", sealed in 1397, the current coat of arms with crossbeam or barre is used by the district or town of Zündorf south Cologne.
I. Henrich "von Zudendorp", one of the knights, sealed a certificate in 1397 with his coat of arms, a cross-sectional shield showing an eagle with open wings in the top corner. This eagle can also be seen on the helmet between two buffalo horns or elephant snouts. From this coat of arms together with the shield of Gerhard "van Zudendorp", ca. 1330, the current coat of arms with crossbar or barre is now carried by the Zündorf district, Cologne.

I. Requin von Zudendorf is a witness in 1222 in a certificate from Cologne, among the Bergen nobility.
From this marriage:
-
Heinrich (<1228-1245>), born after May 1228 and before July 1235, and died 1242/1245, prince. Before starting the Sixth Crusade, his father appointed him in his will of 1228 as heir to the two crowns: of Sicily and of Germany. In the same year he began his personal reign in Germany, which was characterized by the Statutum in principle issued in Worms in May 1231.
-
Friedrich (<1235-1251), after May 1228 before July 1235, and died before 1251/1252, prince, crown prince or missing king. 'Frederick the only surviving son of Henry (VII), was mentioned in the will of his grandfather Frederick II, where the emperor entrusted him with the Duchy of Austria, the Margraviate of Styria and 10,000 uncias. His death in 1251 was recorded by Matthew Paris, who claimed that both he and his elder brother had been poisoned (veneno interfecit)'.

He belongs entirely to two other families with this name and "the seal has been taken from the municipal archives of Cologne and informed no. 198 and 199".
I. Gerhard von Zudendorf was the first "Vogt"; a philosopher von Palmersdorf Hof; a court (association) with 220 laws of Melfi, the separation of church and state drawn up in the Liber Constitutionum Regni by Frederick II, which was recorded in a document and stationed at the Johannishof in 1269; his grandfather Frederik I, already used the Holy Roman Empire, directed against the ambitions of the Sancate Ecclesia, the Holy Church and previous headquarters of the Ordo fratrum hospitalis sanctae Mariae Theutonicorum Ierosolimitanorum (Teutonic Knight(s)) led by likely bishop Cologne, founded 1189 Acre, northern Israel.

Because Fischenich's coat of arms showed a crossbar and a fish above, he chose to distinguish two fish lying one above the other. The family is also only known under von Fischenich.
